The two types of research methods commonly used in psychology are qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research focuses on exploring and understanding the meanings and experiences of individuals. It often involves collecting non-numerical data, such as interviews or open-ended survey responses, to gain insights into psychological phenomena. This method allows researchers to capture the complexity of human behavior and the subjective experiences of participants.

On the other hand, quantitative research emphasizes the measurement and analysis of numerical data. It typically involves structured methods such as experiments, surveys with closed-ended questions, or observational studies. This approach enables psychologists to identify patterns, test hypotheses, and draw statistical conclusions, leading to findings that can be generalized to larger populations.

The combination of these two methods enriches psychological research by providing both depth and breadth to understanding human behavior. Qualitative research adds context and detail, while quantitative research lends itself to statistical power and generalization, making both indispensable in the field.
